April 2015

Dear friends,

This year in addition to the Maundy Thursday Service we will also be having a Good Friday Service. We appropriately call it Maundy Thursday service because we include footwashing as a part of the service. We recall the new commandment (mandatum novum in Latin) to love one another that Christ gave us in John 13:34. Anyone may choose to participate in the footwashing or one may choose simply to observe.

Coming without socks or hose may ease your participation in the service. The service will also include the Lord's Supper and the stripping of the church. With the church bare everyone is invited to come on Good Friday for a Service of Tenebrae, which is an extended meditation on the passion of Christ. Please enter the Chapel in silence on Good Friday and we will all exit the church in silence at the conclusion of the service. Be in prayer for our church until we meet again on Easter Sunday morning to celebrate the Resurrection.

There are several short readings on Good Friday and if you would be interested in participating as a reader please let me know so that you may receive the reading in advance of the service.

Peace,

Lindsey

February 2015

The Smith family would like to express our sincere and heartfelt thanks and love for the generous outpouring of love, affection, and sympathy expressed by friends, neighbors, and the members of First United Methodist Church, towards our family after the death of Lindsey's father, Lindsey Smith, Sr. The support we received from members of this church helped us through a difficult time.

Thanks to Ann Marks for organizing the bus trip, to all who traveled to Galena Park for the funeral, including Ann Marks, Lona Odum, Mattie McKinney, Sally Taylor, Mae Joyce Downs, Sherry Brackin, Sara Brown, Debbie Oldham, Dennie and Leatrice Johnson, and Shirley Calloway. Special thanks to Felecia Davis for driving the church bus. Thanks to Darlene Zieschang for organizing the preparation and serving of the food. Special thanks goes to our servers: Dian Walker, Ken & D-Ann Berry, Mae Joyce Downs, Ann Marks, and Lona Odum. The following people brought dishes to serve our family and we are so grateful: Ann Marks, Sara Brown, Mae Joyce Downs, Valarie Richert, Lona Odum, Tinya Griffin, Bobbie Waugh, Dian Walker, Bernadine Mills, D-Ann Berry, Melissa Wallace, Celeste Newton, Sally Taylor, Terri Searles, Bill Brackin, and Liberty-Dayton Chrysler Dealership. If we forgot to include your name, we humbly apologize. The day was a blur and you being there made it so much easier.

One final thank you to our church members and the members of the We Care Committee for the beautiful flowers sent to the funeral home. Thank you for all the blessings!

Shalom.

Lindsey and DeeAnn Smith
